From a borrowed wheel in a shared studio to a thriving creative space in Winnipeg — this is the story of Tolu, the clay, and the community that grew around both.A curated collection of handcrafted ceramic pieces — each shaped with intention, texture, and timeless design.
My name is Tolu, and I've been throwing clay since 2011. What started as a quiet curiosity — a single Saturday class at a community centre — became something I couldn't put down.
There's a moment every potter knows: when the clay centres beneath your hands and the noise of everything else falls away. That moment changed my life. I've spent the years since trying to give that same feeling to as many people as possible.
I trained formally in ceramic arts and have worked across studios in Canada, the UK, and West Africa — each place teaching me something different about material, patience, and process. In 2019, I opened Pottery by Tolu Studio in Winnipeg with one simple goal: to make pottery feel welcoming, not intimidating.
